Leland and Becky Turner came to St.Pete beach, all the way from Houston, Texas, to give their kids, Trent and Olivia their first taste of offshore fishing. Let's just say the kids are going to be as avid as mom and dad about fishing. As an added bonus to the day-the weather could not have been any better. We have been expeiencing the best fall weather Florida has to offer.
We did our usual run to the St.Pete reef and Betty Rose to put some Spanish mackerel in the box. The fish were very willing to grab any lure or spoon dragged in front of them, and the Barracuda were right on cue. We lost several very large 'macks' to these toothy thieves before we got our first hook-up. Leland took control and after a lengthy battle, brought a 30 pound Barracuda to the boat. Good job dude! A few more mackerel for the smoker and we were on our way to play with the Grouper and Snappers.
The grouper bite has been staying pretty steady in the 35-60 foot mark, both Red and Gag grouper have been making their way back to the docks even on our 4-hour fishing charters out of Pass-a-grille, St.Pete beach. Saturday was no different. The Turner family and good friend(and "coastie"), Brandon, managed to put several nice Red grouper in the fish box along with Olivia's Scamp grouper(pictured in our photo gallery) and a whole mess of grey snapper caught by Trent. Check out Trent Turner, on his first offshore fishing trip, with a double hook-up on the snapper rig.(above)
