That's right kids, dust off the trolling rigs and get ready for the 'mack' attack that is about to go down. After a fairly mild Winter, the Spanish mackerel have begun to migrate and the Tampa Bay area is swarming with these silver speed demons.
Friday's fishing trip was short but sweet. My nephew, Jake and I took a little 'shakedown' run on the 'ole Jawbreaker after a few minor repairs. We only had an hour or two to burn so I decided to check Pass-a-Grille Pass and St.Pete Beach for some incoming mackerel action...and the fish were there! The original plan was to take a relaxing ride and troll down to John's Pass and “maybe we will pick up a few mackerel for the smoker.” Well, we barely made it out of Pass-a-Grille where the birds were diving in every direction and the 'macks' were busting the surface, putting on a show for the two of us, and as soon as we got a couple of lines set....Fish On! Jake was working like a dog, reeling in mackerel after Spanish mackerel like it was a fish factory going into overdrive. Sure beats the hell out of the desert though, huh Jake?
Jake and his twin brother, Max, have recently returned from the field of battle in Afgahnistan...for good! Jake is here in St.Pete, where he belongs, and Max will be returning from California in a few short months...and then it's game on. Fishing, fishing and more fishing, in the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.
As Tampa Bay locals, sometimes we just don't know how good we really have it! Wake-up and smell the salt air, book a fishing charter on the Jawbreaker today and start living the good life. Thanks again Jake and Max, God bless America and God bless the USMC...especially our snipers! Oorah!!..Happy fishing, Capt.Dan
