Just ask our new young friend Greg about the Kingfish bite off John's Pass and St.Pete Beach. No doubt about it folks, even after this last little weather episode, the Kingfish are chewing! And the Gag Grouper,...I mean, the 'endangered Gag Grouper', well, these guys are so hard to find, I am crying as I type this fishing report. Let's talk about it.
Gag Grouper are considered 'over-fished' by the good ole' Federal Gov't, and the special science 'reporters' that they hire to kill our industry....oh, I mean, they hire for the betterment of future generations of fish, and fisher-people, and all other species not considered people,...gotta be PC, right? Anyway, the Gag Grouper were eating baits 30 feet into the water column. Go figure. Let's just say, there is no shortage of Gag Grouper where I'm fishing.
The Kingfish were right where we left them a few days ago. Our crew, Glen Jones, Chris, Dianne and young Greg got into a hot Kingfish bite, as well as Bonito, Spanish mackerel and of course, Sharks!..No Barracuda on this fishing trip, but, Greg and his 'fishability' put 3 nice Kings in the ice box, as well as several Spanish macks. Good job dude! Quick note: one Mahi-Mahi was hooked, leadered and lost....boatside. Oh well, it was a 'peanut' anyway and Summer is coming! Fun was had by all and I consider Friday's fishing charter a success...Gag Grouper or not, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico has so much more to offer.
