2010 has been a great year for Jawbreaker fishing charters. Regardless of the slow economy, the Gulf oil spill or even the grouper fishing closures that we have experienced(and the new ones that loom), we have survived yet another year to tell the wonderful stories of taking great folks out fishing in the great blue yonder that we call the Gulf of Mexico...a.k.a. my office.
Thursday's fishing charter was another one of those trips that left me feeling the love for my job. We hosted a great family from Chicago...some now transplanted to Tampa, Florida. Scott Powers, his dad, Jim, son Dillon, brother-in-law Nolan and his son Cameron a.k.a. the grouper slayer, had a productive outing on the Jawbreaker. For a 4-hour fishing charter the fish box was very heavy when we returned to St.Pete Beach. These guys were handling the fish like pros. We did lose several big fish to the rocky bottom, but managed to fool some quality sized Gags and, of course, big Greys into the ice box.
Dillon Power was the first to put a keeper Gag grouper into the box...check him out in the above pic with a hefty Gag. Cameron was right behind him with the follow-up, back-to-back keeper Gags in about 5 minutes....way to go Cam! (Check out more pics in the gallery) Everyboby caught fish, the fish box was full and our new friends were on their way to a great New Year's feast, we even prepared fresh Snapper sashimi back at the dock after a quick run over to Publix for some Soy sauce and Wasabi...Yum!...
