If not, you need to call Jawbreaker fishing charters and get you some of this. Grouper fishing has been good, and it's only going to get better. Water temps in the Gulf of Mexico are starting a slow decline with each cool front that passes and both Red and Gag Grouper are following suit and filling in the small rock piles and ledges that make up the near shore, underwater terrain.
Check out locals (from left)Mike, Art and Dave with their fair share of fresh Gulf Grouper. We fished in the 40-45 foot range for these bad boys...and lost a few too! You can expect to lose a few to the rocky bottom, and the more shallow the water-the harder the fight to turn them around. When the water color is a bit off, or just dirty, take advantage and 'tackle up'. Don't be afraid to use a larger hook, heavier leader line or even larger lead weight(if needed), this may increase the number of fish that actually make it to the fish box. Quick note: we had an 80 pound Sailfish swim right up to the back of the boat on this trip. Pitching a big Threadfin got his attention, unfortunately it was on a Kingfish rig and was instantly lost, not even a jump...but still very exciting, and a great memory.
Gag Grouper season will end on October 31, 2012. As stated earlier, the fishing is only going to get better. Call Jawbreaker today and book your chance to tangle with your dinner. Happy fishing folks, Capt.Dan
