Fishing options on St Pete Beach

It's a good thing that we have so many options for fishing here in the Tampa Bay area. Take Wednesday's 4-hour fishing charter out of Pass-a-Grille, on St.Pete Beach. Unlike the previous day, the wind was howling out of the Southeast and then Southwest. I knew that going offshore was not an option, however, fishing the nearshore waters of Pinellas County beaches has been as steady as anywhere that we normally fish.
Our crew of Dave, Tom and Martha were ready for Tom's, first-ever, offshore deep sea fishing trip. Unfortunately, the weather turned it into a nearshore, shallow water fishing trip...but the fish were biting, and that was good! Anchoring up and chumming the water was key. We deployed several big Threadfin, under balloons, and waited. It didn't take long for the Spanish mackerel to find us. Check out Tom with the first fish of the day. Martha did bring one nice Kingfish, in the mid-teens, to the boat just before the darn thing came unbuttoned. There always has to be 'the one that got away'.
Another great day was had and our crew ended up with enough meat for dinner, and for a trip to Ted Peter's smokeshack, for some of the best smoked fish Florida has to offer. Thanks again Dave, we look forward to seeing you again later this year...catching big fish! Happy fishing to Ya! Capt. Dan
