What better way to spend Father's day than a fishing charter on St.Pete beach. That's what Ginny Cannon figured when she booked a fishing charter with Jawbreaker fishing charters, located on St.Petersburg beach in the Dolphin Landings marina. We took Rick, Ginny and son, Tommy, out into the Gulf of Mexico only to be greeted by summer-time storms in almost every direction.
Trolling our usual haunts like the St.Pete reef, Treasure Island reef, South County and the Betty Rose offered very little. The massive schools of baitfish, along with the diving terns and gulls, that have been present for the last few weeks were gone. Maybe due to a barometric pressure change near the storms or just the fact that the Gulf of Mexico has reached 90 degrees near the shores of St.Pete beach and John's Pass.
We decided that bottom fishing for grouper, snapper and the sorts was in order. The short Red grouper bite was hot. Rick did manage a solid 15lb. Gag grouper to within 5 feet of the boat before his leader broke...ouch! Check him out with a juvenile Cobia that bit his hook on the next drop. Rick was definetly enjoying his Father's Day gift with lots of different fish coming over the rail.
If you have a special person that you would like to treat to a care-free day of fishing in Tampa Bay, call Jawbreaker fishing charters. There is no better way to say "I Love You" than giving them a Tampa Bay fishing charter. Happy fishing to Ya! Capt.Dan
