Big Mack attack on St Pete Beach

Well the big Spanish mackerel have invaded the Gulf Coast of Florida and we were able to get in on some fast-paced fishing this past Friday. Our half day charter was spent slow trolling some live whitebaits and Threadfin with lots of action to talk about. Just ask Lori, pictured above with Jon West and a beautiful Spanish mackerel in the 5 pound range. Way to go girl!
Our new friends Alex, Kevin and Lori from Augusta, Georgia were looking to bring some fish home for the smoker and I figured Kingfish and Spanish mackerel was the way to go. We started out at the Pass-a-grille marker with Jon opening up the cast net to a livewell full of prime Kingfish and mackerel baits. Next we were off to a very short run in to the beach, and 20 feet of water. From there it was 'game on'.
Surprisingly, no Kingfish were caught, but the Spanish were thick. In a few hours, we had over 20 big macks in the box. The Kingfish have been doing a good job of avoiding us lately, but that will change. Get on the Jawbreaker and go catch up some fish for your smoker. The mackerel bite should stay hot for the next few months and Red Grouper are back on the table. Call today! Happy fishing to Ya, Capt. Dan p.s. Alex, Semper Fi !!!...Another "Jarhead" on my list is alright by me!!..thanks dude!
