Big Kingfish catching off StPete Beach

Tampa Bay and local Gulf beaches are warming up. Average daytime air temps are nearing 90 degrees, Gulf of Mexico water temps are in the low 80's, but rapidly warming, and the fishing...well, it's red hot! As stated in other recent fishing reports, the Kingfish a.k.a. King Mackerel, are here in good numbers, and seem to be averaging in the 15-25 pound range...at least that's what we've been catching on a consistent basis now. Of course, we have seen some bigger fish in the mix, but, the bigger they get, the more luck you need to get 'em in the boat.
Saturday's 4-hour deepsea fishing trip, out of St.Pete Beach, was awesome! We had Chad Bennett and good friends Aaron, Mark, Brett and Jeff out for a little Kingfishing excursion. These guys, except for Jeff, are a real live singing group...barbershop quartet style! How cool. I mean, these guys were belting out some hard-core vocals on our way out to the fishing grounds. Jon and I were looking at each other and knew right then, this is going to be a good fishing trip, and it was.
We reached our newly found 'honey-hole' and started doing our thing. At first the fish were receptive to our offerings but only left us with several baits cut in half, and one big hit-and-miss heartbreak. Eventually our luck changed though, and we had our own quartet of smoker-sized Kingfish in the ice box. As usual, a big Bull Shark found our action and helped himself to one of our Kings. Oh well...check out Jeff(left) and Chad with some nice Kings on the Jawbreaker! Good job guys! You handled it like pros.
